Selfish behaviour is one of the reasons a relationship can be imbalanced. We all can be selfish at some point in our lives especially when we are in need of something badly, but you have to notice and make a decision when being selfish is a constant occurrence in your relationship. For selfish lovers, giving makes them feel out of control and they are often hiding something they are very ashamed of which makes them hold on to their love because giving it up makes them feel as though they are sliding on ice.
1. Your partner is always nagging and belittling you
A selfish person will never take your needs into consideration, they will try anything possible to make you feel worthless so that things are always about them. If you ever find yourself in a relationship that you are always giving and not receiving, it is an imbalance and selfish relationship. We should remember that a relationship that is one sided cannot flourish.
2. Your partner is competitive and insecure
A person who is always trying to be smarter or better than his/her significant other is an insecure person with a degree of selfishness. When a partner is envious of his counterpart, it is because the other partner has something he/she doesn’t have and they know it. Jealousy is a disease and love is a healthy condition which both partner in a healthy relationship grow while bringing out the best of each other and the immature minds often assumes that the greater the love, the greater the jealousy, in fact, they are incompatible, one emotion hardly leaves room for the other.
3. Your partner believes that what he or she does is more important
Selfish people do not consider the needs of another person, even their life partner. They always want what they want and believe they have the right to put themselves first and this behavior is a form of betrayal and if you do not stand up for what you want your partner will not feel need to stand up for what you desire either. You must show your worth and love in order to combat any selfish behavior in a relationship because selfish behavior that is repetitive can be emotionally draining and toxic. You put yourself second and lose your self respect from the relationship because selfishness is extinction.
4. Your partner doesn’t apologies
This is one of the biggest signs, if your partner cannot say “I am sorry” when he/she has done something hurtful or offensive then he might be an egocentric person and this kind of people do not have moral values, resentment or wrongdoings and it is always about them. A selfish soul in a relationship diminishes the ability to love fully with joy and if your partner has an egotistical nature that never regrets anything then you have a selfish partner. No relationship is perfect but when there is no consideration, respect or trust it can become an abusive relationship.
